Winning SBIR & STTR Funding 2019: Raising Your Chances for Success

Description:

THE FIRST COURSE IN A 4-PART SBIR/STTR GRANT WORKSHOP SERIES:

Southern California stretching from Los Angeles through Irvine and Riverside to San Diego is comprised of a myriad of high-caliber research universities and new small business venture start-ups. Most of these new ventures are seeking seed funding to prove concept, confirm feasibility and accelerate business development. Competition for available funds is rigorous. The federal SBIR/STTR program is viewed as the leading resource for many small businesses looking for that seed capital and commercialization support.  Early-stage investors, including angels, are less inclined to “jump in” without proofs of concept or evidence-based market validation. SBIR and STTR grants are the new seed capital often preceding private equity or corporate capital. What lessons can we learn about what it takes to win these vital grants?

In this experience-based interactive workshop, participants will learn Insights Gained regarding:

  • Key Success Criteria that Agencies Look for to Award Phase I Grants
  • Agency-Specific Decision-Making Processes
  • Proven Best Practices from Successful Awardees
  • How Industry and/or University Partnerships May Help You Succeed
  • Winning and Managing Phase I to be awarded a Phase II grant (also: the key reasons why we do not get past Phase I)
  • Why the Title (seriously!), Abstract, and the Aims Statement are so important
  • Why Customer Discovery and Validation is so essential, even for Phase I
  • The Essentials of a Well-Prepared Study Approach
  • The Commercialization Plan & Why It is Vital; Business Model Generation
